Our Story
ZemiGrow started with a simple problem: the internet had no idea what gandules were, let alone how to grow them in North Texas.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, food is woven into everything. It's the gandules growing along the fence line, recao in every sofrito, plátanos bending branches heavy in the yard. You don't think about it as gardening — it's just how things are. Food comes from around you.
Then I moved to Texas.
The soil is different. The seasons are nothing like home. And when I went looking for help growing the plants I'd eaten my whole life — the ones that actually meant something to me — I kept hitting dead ends. Generic guides for generic gardens. Nothing that understood where I was coming from, literally or figuratively.
I built ZemiGrow because that knowledge gap shouldn't exist. The kind of growing wisdom passed down in backyards, bodegas, and family kitchens deserves a real home — not just a footnote in a gardening textbook written for someone else's climate and someone else's table.
ZemiGrow is for the gardener planning their first raised bed in a DFW backyard. It's for the abuela trying to figure out why her ají isn't thriving in zone 8. It's for anyone who wants to grow the food that actually matters to them, with the tools and community to make it work.
We're just getting started — but we're building something that lasts.
— Alex Alicea, Founder
Growing wisdom shouldn't live locked behind paywalls or inside gardening books that only cover a fraction of what people actually grow. We keep the core free, forever.
You can export everything you've ever added to ZemiGrow and delete your account completely at any time. No lock-in, no data games.
"Local and seasonal" means something different depending on where you come from. ZemiGrow adapts to your zone, your climate, and your crops — not the other way around.
The best growing advice comes from people who've actually grown the thing, in a place like yours. We're building tools for that knowledge to spread.
